Baseball TRIVIA Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose
~During a 1963 exhibition game against the New York Yankees, Reds second baseman Pete Rose ran top speed to first base. On a walk. Several Bronx bombers, thinking the rookie was a 'hot dog' derisively referred to Rose as "Charlie Hustle." Pete transformed the gibe into a compliment. Soon baseball fans were cheering his passionate, no-holds-barred style of play that helped him win three batting titles and made him a vital part of three world champion baseball teams.
